Disabled text disappears

QUESTION: When I open a new dialog box, some of the text on the dialog box underneath it disappears. Text also disappears from fields that are “ghosted”. What can I do?

ANSWER: This problem exists with some Windows 3.x color schemes. A Color scheme which uses a light gray for “Disabled Text” that exactly matches the dialog box background color will cause the text to disappear. To fix this, you can either switch to a color scheme that uses a different color (for example, “Black Leather Jacket”), or modify your existing scheme. To do this:

1.  In the Main group, open the Windows Control Panel.

2. Double click on the Color icon and push the Color Palette button.

3. From the list of Screen Elements, choose “Disabled Text”.

4. The color used for disabled text is indicated by a heavy frame around one of the colors in the Basic Colors grid (probably set to light gray). Click on one of the darker shades of gray, such as the one two colors to the left of the light gray.

5. Click OK when you’ve selected a suitable color.
