License Manager
The License Manager allows you to review ProAdmin license usage, update licenses, and select a license to use.
The spreadsheet in the main dialog displays the network licenses that are currently in use. (ProAdmin users with single-user keys are not included in this list.) The columns in the spreadsheet are:
Name | This is obtained from the [User] Name= entry in the user's PROADMIN.INI file. |
License | Shows the type of license the user currently has checked out. (See below.) |
Last Activity | When the user last started a command. |
Last Command | The name of the last command that the user executed. (If the License is None, the user has exited from the command.) |
The Refresh button updates the display with the latest information.
License Limits
There is one type of ProAdmin license: Full - which allows use of any command in any mode
A hardware key has license limits associated with it. For example, a key might allow 3 full licenses to be used concurrently. The Limits button allows you to review the limits for your keys. The main License Limits dialog shows the keys for which limits are registered, including their expiration dates. This list may include both network keys and single-user keys. Press the Details button to see the number of licenses associated with selected keys.
If your license is about to expire, Winklevoss can provide encrypted data that will extend your license. The Update and New buttons are used to enter this data. The Erase button removes information for selected keys; it should be used only after returning a key to Winklevoss.
Note: The license limit data is stored in the PVLIMITS.DAT file in the ProAdmin directory. If you install ProAdmin on a new computer you may need to copy PVLIMITS.DAT to that computer.
Usage Tracking
ProAdmin can optionally record the amount of time that licenses were in use. Click on the Usage button and select the "Accumulate usage statistics" checkbox. (You must be a ProAdmin SuperUser to do this; see below.) Wait a few days to accumulate some usage data, then return to the Usage button and press the Table button. The rows of the table indicate the number of concurrent users, the columns indicate the type of license, and the numbers in the table give the number of hours and minutes that Y users were concurrently using a license of type X.
Killing Licenses
If ProAdmin crashes, the license that was checked by the crashed user out may be "stranded" (left active). You must manually kill stranded licenses so they can be reused. Press the Kill button to do this. Stranded sessions are easily identified by the date of last activity: if the date is more than a few days ago, it's probably a stranded session. Each user is allowed to kill off his own stranded sessions; SuperUsers are allowed to kill off any sessions.
SuperUser
The ProAdmin administrator at a site is given SuperUser status and is allowed to kill any sessions, manage usage tracking, and erase license limit entries. Contact Winklevoss for instructions on how to designate a SuperUser.
