Salary Projection

For salaries for years before the year of termination (Salaries before termination), the salary scale (i.e., both salary inflation and a salary merit scale, if applied) indicates whether, or how, to increase the salary values of the salary history to produce projected salaries. See the Salary Increases topic of Projection Assumptions for a discussion of the salary scale parameters, including both the Constant rate and Variable by year options for the Salary inflation and Salary merit scale parameters.  Click the  button to access the Salary Merit Scales Library and create new tables or modify existing ones.

The salary merit scale Parameters button becomes available (unghosted) if <merit scale by calendar year> is selected. In this case, specify, in the Rates vary by: Calendar years: text box, the calendar years at the beginning of which the merit scale is assumed to change. For example, if the rates will be one particular table through 2008, another for 2009, yet another for all years 2010 through 2014 inclusive and one last table in 2015 and later years, then enter “2009 - 2010, 2015” or "2009,2010,2015" in the text box. Two columns, From and To, will appear in the grid below, and rows appear according to the “breakdown by year” indicated by the text box entries. In our example, rows appear for years through 2008, for 2009, for 2010 through 2014 and for years 2015 and later, so that you may enter the rate table associated with each set of years. For each year, select the desired salary merit scale library entry. If you wish to create a new table or edit an existing one, click the  button to access the Salary Merit Scales Library.

If the Override salaries box is checked, these projected salaries are then be overridden to produce final salaries. The override options are:

Only full years of salary are considered. This specifically applies to the salary in the year of hire (even if provided in the salary history). Furthermore, salaries are considered only through the later of termination or the year prior to commencement, whichever comes first.

In the output, projected salaries appear in the column “Salary Proj. w/ Scale” and the final, overridden, salaries appear in the column “Salary Proj. w/ Overrides”.

For projecting salaries to years after the year of termination (Salaries after termination), there are two options: project Level salaries equal to the most recent salary, or assume Zero future salaries. Note that for a disability PIA (for a disabled disability insured worker under full retirement age), the termination year is ignored (and thus the salaries after termination are irrelevant).
