Termination rates zeroed out

QUESTION: I have referenced termination rates in my Valuation Assumptions but when I run a sample life my termination rates are all 0. Why?

ANSWER: One of the following items must be in error:

  1. Eligibility for retirement, as entered under Input | Plan Benefit Definitions | Benefit Definitions | Eligibility Requirements (or, if in OPEB mode, Active Eligibility). By default, ProVal assumes terminations and retirements are mutually exclusive, so termination rates are set equal to 0 once retirement eligibility is reached. Either adjust the eligibility requirements for retirement eligibility or modify your Valuation Assumptions (and perhaps Projection Assumptions) to assume that termination rates continue after retirement eligibility is reached.

  2. The termination table itself, entered under Input | Reference Tables | Termination Rates.
