Adjustments

The Adjustments tab defines adjustments to the interest crediting rate, such as, historical interest rate overrides, minimum crediting rates and maximum crediting rates.

The Apply fixed rate override for specific periods checkbox allows you to specify fixed rates of interest that override the interest rate specified on the Structure tab. For example, if a plan used a 6% interest rate from its inception in 1999 and changed to a rate based on the 30 year Treasury rate in 2001, the Structure tab would point to the use of the 30 year Treasury interest rate table but this parameter would indicate that through 12/31/2000, the crediting rate is 6%. The initial From column in the table is always ghosted at 1/01/1900. For this example, the first row of the Up to column would be 1/01/2000 and the first column of the Crediting Rate column would be 0.06. Any number of fixed rates may be entered. The From column will always default to one day after the prior Up to column value

The Apply minimum rate checkbox allows you to specify a minimum interest rate that will be applied against the rate specified on the Structure tab. The minimum rate can be either a Constant or a Table from the Interest Rate Table Library. This parameter is typically used when the plan document references an interest rate floor. For example, if a pension plan specifies that the interest rate is based on the 30 year Treasury rate but can never be less than 4%, the Structure tab would reference the 30 year Treasury rate table and this parameter would be checked and the constant rate box would contain an entry of 0.04. The minimum rate is applied after any fixed rate override amount and any minimum applied to the interest rate table itself.

The Apply maximum rate checkbox allows you to specify a maximum rate that will be applied against the rate specified on the Structure tab. The maximum rate can be either a Constant or a Table from the Interest Rate Table Library. This parameter is typically used when the plan document references an interest rate ceiling. For example, if a pension plan specifies that the interest rate is based on the 30 year Treasury rate but can never be more than 8%, the Structure tab would reference the 30 year Treasury rate table and this parameter would be checked and the constant rate box would contain an entry of 0.08. The maximum rate is applied after any fixed rate override amount and any maximum applied to the interest rate table itself.
