Grandfathered service
Grandfathered services are amounts which, at specified points in time, can either be added to or subtracted from the service calculation. Each grandfathered service considered must have an effective date which designates when to incorporate it into the service calculation. Each entry in the library can have only one data field associated with it. Amounts to add or subtract from calculated service lists any defined grandfathered service amounts. The Field column shows the name of the Data Dictionary field that holds the grandfathered service amount and the Description column shows the descriptive phrase that was selected. You can double-click on an existing entry to edit it or select an entry and use the Edit button to edit it, the Copy button to make a copy as a starting point for a new entry, or the Erase button to erase it. Clicking the New button brings up the grandfathered service dialog for a new entry requesting the following information:
Description is any descriptive phrase that identifies the service to you. It can be of any length and may use any character or spaces.
The Service field multi-choice field provides all numerical Data Dictionary fields as possible choices. The effective date is intrinsically furnished when the service field is an array. If it is a scalar and not an array, you must supply the effective date as either a constant date or a date field.
The Accumulate by Measurement period check box will be available when the service field is an array. Checking this box will accumulate amounts from the service field within the Service Definition’s measurement periods. When the service field is a scalar, this option is not available.
Effective Date is available and required when the service field is a scalar. It will not be available when the service field is an array because the effective date(s) are intrinsically known.
The Constant radio button provides a field where you can enter a specific date which is appropriate for all members having amounts in the grandfathered service field.
The Field radio button provides a multi-choice field for your selection of all date fields available in the Data Dictionary.
The Service rounding rule multi-choice field allows you to select an entry from the Service Rounding library to use as the rounding rule for the calculation. The button allows you to go directly into the library and set up a new rounding rule definition or change an existing one.
The Subtract grandfathered service from calculated service checkbox, if checked, will cause the grandfathered amount to be subtracted from the service otherwise calculated. If not checked, the grandfathered amount will be added to the service otherwise calculated.
